Role Overview

The Service Engineering Manager supports the LTSA and Service Operations groups by leading technical engineering services for large-frame turbine, generator, and auxiliary equipment service. The role supports Mitsubishi J, G, and F Frames, W501F, and other OEM equipment as determined by the business. This working manager balances technical evaluations with leadership of engineers, technicians, and interns to improve fleet reliability, availability, maintainability, first-time quality, and long-term cost performance through Engineering Support Requests, Non-Conformance Reports, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage engineers, technicians, and interns supporting LTSA and Service Operations, including timely technical evaluations and disposition of non-conformances.
• Maintain field service engineering support coverage throughout the year.
• Lead personnel development through regular check-ins, performance reviews, coaching, and technical skill development.
• Lead the team tasking and certification program, including initial and recurring training based on first-time quality and on-time delivery performance.
• Create and assign work while ensuring high-quality completion by committed dates.
• Assume technical responsibility as an Engineering Manager under SOP-OPS-211 for assigned technical activities.
• Advocate for company and departmental initiatives and lead productivity and growth efforts.
• Evaluate fleet reliability, performance, and cost impacts and clearly communicate business risks and recommendations.
• Partner with LTSA Support, Parts Planning, and Configuration Engineering to identify service issues and recommend current part configurations.
• Coordinate with Mitsubishi Power factories and engineering organizations in Takasago, Hitachi City, Nagasaki, Yokohama, Savannah, and other locations to implement design improvements and reduce business exposure.
• Publish and maintain fleet-risk information supporting parts planning, outage planning, financial planning, and engineering mitigations.
• Participate in periodic early-morning or evening calls with Japan and ensure service feedback is communicated through reliability reviews.
• Coordinate with project, procurement, manufacturing, transportation, and field service teams to achieve program goals.
• Monitor returned service parts and support component design optimization to address fleet issues.
• Develop staffing plans that balance long-term internal capability growth with specialized outsourced services.
• Provide technical leadership at insurance and lender meetings, user conferences, and industry conferences as needed.
• Ensure fleet experience and lessons learned are incorporated into design reviews and communicated to engineering design teams.
• Support ISO 9001 audits and compliance activities.
• Comply with safety policies, protect confidential information, and maintain the highest standards of honesty and integrity.
• Travel up to 20%, including occasional trips lasting two or more weeks.

Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Knowledge of turbine configuration, design, boundary conditions, temperatures, and materials.
• Demonstrated management or team leadership experience in short-term, critical-path development programs.
• Ability to read and interpret industry reports, technical journals, specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Ability to prepare technical reports, customer correspondence, and presentations for individuals and groups.
• Ability to perform the calculations needed to satisfy technical job requirements.
• Ability to make sound judgment decisions based on specifications and technical requirements.
• Advanced computer skills, including finite element analysis, spreadsheets, SAP, SharePoint, CRM, Windchill, email, word processing, and presentation software.
• Ability to support field outages and collaborate across international teams and time zones.
• Valid automobile driver license required.
